Vesta came to Career Leap
a few years after receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in
Communications from Mills College in Oakland. She had been
working as an Administrative Assistant and Substitute Teacher
since obtaining her degree, and wanted to take the next step
to move out of an Administrative capacity towards a managerial
role.
Vesta was very interested in working for a non-profit organization.
However, since she did not have particular experience in this
area, she needed her resume to be functional and highlight
her transferable skills, as they would relate to working for
a non-profit. Her resume was created to highlight her project
management, organizational, public relations, and creative
skills. Not only did Career Leap incorporate her skills from
her work experience, but we also highlighted the skills she
gained as a freelance photographer, and her personal attributes
such as being bilingual, having knowledge of various cultures
through extensive travels, and having strong interpersonal
skills.
After submitting her resume to the non-profit, she interviewed
for, and received, the March Action Center Manager position,
which involves coordinating volunteer activities, handling
daily business operations of the Center, and managing four
interns.
In Vesta’s words, “I think Stephanie is wonderful.
She cares about the client and takes a personal interest in
their well-being. She carefully listened to me about my career
goals, advised me on what I needed to do to improve my skills
and then represented on paper my individual skills, abilities
and talents.”
